Fear and Loathing Kauai

So in my net wanderings today I found a funny parody of Fear and Loathing Las Vegas tied into the SuperFerry problems:

We were driving around the island’s northshore in bumper-to-bumper traffic when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like, “I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe we should stop for some shave ice. . .” And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the pickup truck and a voice was screaming: “Holy crap! What are these freaking animals?”

Then it was quiet again. Auntie Gonzo was smearing war paint on her face. “What the hell are you yelling about,” she muttered. “Never mind,” I said. “It’s your turn to drive.” I hit the brakes and aimed the truck toward a crowded beach park off the highway. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. She’ll see them soon enough.

The lot overflowed with cars, and the beach swarmed with people Auntie Gonzo didn’t know. Very soon, I knew, we would both be completely twisted. But there was no going back, and no time to rest. We would have to ride it out. I was, after all, a professional journalist with the L.A. Times; so I had an obligation to cover the story for good or ill.

I bought my first MP3 at Tradebit

Rebelution - Safe and sound

It’s there radio hit, I should have been paying attention to them earlier… My friends have been sponsoring them for a while now. I got it for 99 cents at http://www.tradebit.com/ It seemed a little sketchy but I didn’t want to support snocap, they used to do song fingerprinting…

I figured it was an important step for me… ‘I am thinking of picking up their new cd and also NMB’s album too. They are Hawaiian Hip Hop/Experimental. I just cannot find the MP3 album online to buy; they want to send me a CD. Too old school for me. I went to their CD release after party and they ended not showing up. I would have been able to pick up their cd pre release for ten bones…

Note to Rebelution boys: If get one problem let me know and I fix it quick. It’s your old CD so I figure it’s promotion, plus I am not posting the download link!

MP3’s for all, get hyped

So I am not sure if I just was asleep on the internet again but I think a phenomena has just hit mainstream.

MP3 Aggregators, it swoops through the internet looking for those cute little file ending in mp3

Here are a couple:

hypem.com mainly a blog aggregator, you need to submit your site to get listed. Uses to find songs and artists you do not know

seeqpod.com Uses a search engine to crawl through the net and let you search upon its tracks, make playlists and share. Done in flash and also made a iphone version! Uses to find songs and artists you know

They get their tracks from blogs like mine and also big time MP3Blogs like stereogum.com

I am a huge Atmosphere fan, time to spread some love:

From the latest EP a few days old “Lyndale Avenue Users Manual” real relaxed and chill atmos.

Now a nice happy summer song; “Sunshine

The ongoing collabo with Murs where each CD is dedicated to a fading female artist; the most recent FELT 2 features a track “Dirty Girl

Get them all at the fifth element. Amazon MP3 only has the god loves ugly album for $8.99.

Will I be getting an email from Rhymsaysers saying to take them down or face legal action? I doubt it, the files are actually hosted by them, atmospheres record label. If I were to put up a zip of the new album that might be another problem…. If you still want to hear more try my seeqpod atmosphere playlist

have fun finding new great music and better remixed music!

Update

New song off Atmosphere’s “Sad Clown Bad Winter #11″ In-Stores 12/18 called Don’t Stop

The no career plan Career Planning aproach.

It’s Fall of 2005 and this motivational speaker from that big software company M$ shows up at my school for to give away some goodies and give advice.

He is an old guy… not too old but has a wife and kids and travels for a living telling every super nerd in college to get a life and have a plan for the next 50 years of your life.

The main thing I got from his speach is that I need to have a career plan to advance myself. I need to have a goal and a timeline, I need to set up qualifications and stepping blocks so I can get to that goal. I wrote it on this little scrap of papper that I have filed away somewhere.

As of today it is still on my rtm to do list, above “ensure technology is always an aid, not an obstacle” and below Take work sponsored college advancment.

Still to this day I have nothing… I have a job, I know what I like(at the moment), I know what I am good at and I am fairly satisfied at where I am at for being a little over one year into my professional career.

The first rule of career planning: Do not plan your career.

I like the whole Fight Club unimportance feel.

The second rule of career planning: Instead of planning your career, focus on developing skills and pursuing opportunities.

After that he kinda forgets about rules and just gives examples of measuring risk versus reward and that if you never risk you still may have a great career but will miss out on that one insane opportunity that you will love.

The issue is that without taking risk, you can’t exploit any opportunities.

He talks about being young and being old and having different responsibilities and thier risk profile(the things that could go wrong) associated with it.

My return/risk profile for future jobs are a little too secret for this blog and I have some opportunities that have presented itself and now I need to decide if I want to take the jump…
